Sadly in New Zealand we have introduced a system where the rights of certain people in society have been taken too far. The result has been that offenders are offered every assistance to plead their case at taxpayers expense (okay little wrong with that maybe) but it has attracted a legal framework where lawyers feast on the pickings and prisoners use every flimsy argument to absurdity. The legal processes can take years to resolve.
Meantime the victims and their families are offered very little assistance.
A whole army of intellectuals have also complemented the system by trying to use arguments for the offenders like bad upbringing, racial injustices spanning generations, etc to gain leniency.
We export our businesses offshore with gusto but one business I would gladly advocate we utilise: can the World offer to keep gross offenders in less-than-comfortable prisons for a contract price? Many New Zealanders would gladly hear of any offers. Here in NZ offenders are often kept in modern warm prisons, television, access to phones, etc and every assistance at a time when their victims have to grovel for help.
Our system has gone too soft on the nasty elements and we are paying a huge price now for the leniency!
