New Zealand :
Sadly too many intellectuals try to deprogramme offenders who have no hope of rehabilitation and the result is disastrous for the community.

Here in New Zealand we have spawned a legal system which has been a ”gravy train” for lawyers and their ilk. They try to intellectualize many of the nasty elements in society and in the process protract legal processes to an absurd length. The cost to a small country is huge. Meantime the resources of gangs continues to grow on the wave of a P epidemic.

I thought New Zealand was a peaceful and tranquil country. Thanks for letting us know details.

It’s quite a scary scenario when vigilantes are on the rise. There is no control over that, over the long haul.

That is the result of an image meltdown of law enforcement and hoodlums-in-robes in the justice system.

A corrupt society gives birth to all these phenomena which should be addressed as soon as possible because these have a way of further fomenting public disgust at a fast pace.

I know because I come from a corrupt society myself. :)

I am beginning to believe that there isnt an existing society that isnt corrupt. Since I have joined Instablogs, I have learned of many countries that I thought were peaceful are farrrrrr from it. I was most surprised to learn of the countries that commit very heinous crimes.

Inspite of all of this I try to maintain a positive attitude as we all should, I think we would go nuts if we allow ourselves to be consumed by bad news.

This is the reason why sections like travel, lifestyle, entertainment get my attention the most.

There are contradictory evidences as well. There are many that shows that a tolerant society has lesser number of criminals than societies that have provisions for harsh punishments. The United States has a higher crime rate than the whole of EU countries combined!

I am not into real harsh but rather appropriate my friend.
Tolerance in my book tends be a dirty word - I have no desire to be tolerant on people who rape, plunder and terrify law-abiding good folk. Do we tolerate the Kahui parents where they can produce more children with, sadly, a similar outcome? No way!
Just as we shouldn’t tolerate the Mugabes of this World, more and more people will not tolerate being prisoners in their own society.
For all that I wouldn’t suggest a cruel, negative regime although having said that I would have no compunction in making the real nasties endure a life devoid of privilege.
Too many ”turn the other cheek” and their eyes! It is only when they or their families become victims that they will understand why tolerance has gone far too far in New Zealand.
It’s time for the punishment to fit the crime - no question.

@ Grace

New Zealand is indeed a peaceful and tranquil country if you compared with other countries with similar size and population. New Zealand is one of the cleanest and the least corrupt countries in the world.

Hi Bobette, yes you are kinda right that being in an open global social platform like Instablogs helps knowing about so many different countries and cultures. This is the most amazing thing about social media. It is shrinking the world and sharing information like no other media before.
